A new multi-agency operation was stood up in Northern Australia this week aimed at detecting and deterring illegal foreign fishing vessels in the area. Operation Lunar led by the ABF, bolsters our existing operations and presence in Kimberley Marine Park and the Torres Strait. Combatting security threats at Australia’s northern border is a whole-of-government priority, and operations being undertaken in the Torres Strait Protected Zone are a critical function for the Australian Border Force (ABF). Recently, the Commander of ABF’s Northern Command, Colin Drysdale, travelled to the Torres Strait to familiarise himself with the on-the-ground work being undertaken in respect to the whole-of-government COVID response.
