Jerry Demings has led the county, home to Orlando, since 2018. Gov. Ron DeSantis will leave office at the end of next year because of term limits.

Demings, the husband of former U.S. Rep. Val Demings, is the second prominent Democrat to file paperwork for the race, joining former Congressman David Jolly.

Cities and towns across Central Florida will hold elections on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and perhaps the biggest is the city of Orlando, which is holding elections for three of its city council seats.
