The Trump administration announced fresh sanctions on International Criminal Court officials on Wednesday and accused the ICC of being a "national security threat" and "instrument for lawfare" against the U.
The State Department announced sanctions against four ICC officials over their actions against Americans and Israelis. The ICC denounced the sanctions as an attack on the court's independence.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has sanctioned four more members of the International Criminal Court for violating the sovereignty of non-member states.
"The Court is a national security threat that has been an instrument for lawfare against the United States and our close ally Israel," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said
The Trump administration slapped a Canadian judge on the International Criminal Court with sanctions as the U.S. State Department continues to push back on the tribunal. The State Department says Kimberly Prost of Canada was sanctioned for ruling to authorize the ICC's investigation into U.S. personnel in Afghanistan.
