CLEVELAND, Ohio — In June of 2015, a young Cleveland shortstop named Jose Ramirez was hitting .180 (27 for 150) when he was optioned to Triple-A Columbus. Everyone knew shortstop Francisco Lindor was a rising star in the organization, and some wondered if Ramirez would ever resurface in Cleveland.

Brayan Rocchio hit a two-run homer and rookie C.J. Kayfus had a solo shot as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1. Gavin Williams threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings,

Cleveland recalled Rocchio on July 1 in the wake of Gabriel Arias’ ankle injury. He played so well both on offense and defense that when Arias ultimately returned, Stephen Vogt had no choice but to Rocchio him in the lineup, and slide him to second base.
