The University of Houston has hired Marcus Trice as secondary coach, head coach Willie Fritz said Tuesday. Trice spent the past two seasons as secondary coach and defensive recruiting coordinator at Stephen F. Austin. He replaces safeties coach Josh Christian-Young, who accepted the same position at Kentucky.
The Cougars are playing a bowl game in Houston for the first time since 2007. The team they're facing is undergoing a coaching staff overhaul.
Houston safeties coach Josh Christian-Young is expected to leave for Kentucky, a person familiar with the decision confirmed Saturday. Young has been on coach Willie Fritz's staff the past six seasons at Tulane and UH. In 2024, UH ranked 28th in pass defense.
UH football coach Willie Fritz promoted Brian Bell to receivers coach and will begin to interview candidates for strength and performance director.
