As the clock nears midnight on December 31st, the eyes of the world will turn to Times Square for the dropping on the New Year's Eve ball.The Ball Drop tradition dates to 1904, with the first ball dropped in 1907.

NYE celebrations at Times Square have been held for 122 years, "ever since the owners of One Times Square began to conduct rooftop celebrations."
