Retired Washington state Department of Veterans Affairs Director Alfie Alvarado-Ramos, of Thurston County, has been named the recipient of the state's 2025 Superior Service Award. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has issued an executive order directing the Department of Veteran Affairs to create a statewide Veteran Food Pantry Network to support veterans, service members and their families.

In July, Trump signed the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act into law, which grants the Department of Veterans Affairs to intervene on a veteran's behalf if they face foreclosure on their home. The law also gives an additional $146 million to programs designated to getting homeless veterans off the streets.
