With her win over Jasmine Paolini, Iga Swiatek has now racked up 11 WTA 1000 titles, putting her second on the list since 2009, with only Serena Williams ahead of her. Serena Williams has racked up 13 titles at this level since 2009, the year the WTA first introduced the Premier Mandatory tier that later became known as WTA 1000 events.
A clash of generations and styles will be on display when the U.S. Open kicks off on Sunday, with past and present champions Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff leading the field in a wide open women's draw.

Past US Open champs Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Venus Williams highlight the field
Recent U.S. Open champions Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff lead the women's field when singles play begins Sunday at Flushing Meadows.
In the often sterile world of post-match press conferences, where athletes recite clichés like they’re reading from a script, Iga Swiatek just dropped a comedic gem.
Iga Swiatek arrives at the U.S. Open with her sights set on a seventh Grand Slam title and a potential return to world number one to cap what she calls a remarkable year of redemption following "the worst experience of my life".
After a rough start to the year, Świątek (+310) is now basically neck and neck odds-wise with Sabalenka (+290), who is, again, the defending US Open champion. If anyone can unseat Sabalenka, it sure feels like Świątek is the most likely to do it.

Tennis World USA on MSNWatch: Iga Swiatek hilariously disagrees with Casper Ruud: What!? No, it was you
Swiatek then explained: "That's not possible because when your agent asked my agent, I think, or you asked me, I had no idea what I'm signing up for. I was like, 'Yeah okay, I want to play with Casper.' But I didn't know what the tournament is going to look like so it must've been you."
Look no further than Iga Swiatek. Earlier this summer, the sky was falling for Swiatek. She failed to defend any of her clay court titles, sank in the WTA Rankings, and was fielding outlandish questions about possibly skipping the grass court season altogether (luckily, that did not happen).
Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka has been No. 1 all season. But Swiatek, with her wins at Wimbledon and Cincinnati, is building momentum.
