The rumors of Wyc Grousbeck's demise as a relevant member of the Boston Celtics may have been exaggerated. Or at least that is the point of view hinted at in a recent interview by Boston Globe reporter Adam Himmelsbach with the former lead governor and owner of the Celtics Wyc Grousbeck and current majority owner Bill Chisholm.

The sale of the Boston Celtics was finalized on Tuesday, with private equity mogul Bill Chisholm taking over control of the NBA’s most-decorated franchise from a group led by Wyc Grousbeck that had owned them for more than two decades.

The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale of the Boston Celtics last week, valuing the franchise at $6.1 billion. The full purchase will happen in two parts, with Chisholm's ownership group taking over at least 51 percent of the team right now before gaining full control by 2028.
